The test is designed to determine the magnesium content in seawater aquariums from 1100 to 1500 mg/l Mg.
The magnesium content is determined by means of complexometric titration.
Magnesium ions and the indicator used form a red colored complex. Titration with Na2-EDTA (Titriplex III) releases the indicator while the magnesium ions are complexed by EDTA. The free indicator turns the solution blue. The titration is completed when the color changes from red to pure blue (no violet tint).
