This test is designed to determine the calcium content in saltwater aquariums in the range of 300 to 500 mg/l Ca.
The determination of the calcium content is carried out by means of complexometric titration in the highly alkaline pH range (pH ≥ 12). Calcium ions form a red-coloured complex with the indicator used. Titration with Na2-EDTA (Titriplex III) releases the indicator while the calcium ions are complexed by EDTA. The free indicator turns the solution blue. The titration is finished with a change of colour from red to purple (shortly before colour change) in pure blue.
